Costs of Surgery

I have been asked by lots of people what the costs of my surgery has been. Below I have summarised the total costs that were paid. Where I know how much Medicare or Private Health Insurance covered some of the cost, I have noted it down.

Please note that it is compulsory to see the Clinic Psychologist and Dietician before the procedure. Following the procedure, you must continue to see the Surgeon and Dietician at the one week, 6 month, and each year anniversary for five years. You do not need to see the Psychologist unless you wish to, but they do advise that those who continue to see her do see better results as they stay on track.

Optifast and Supplements Costs - $335
Optifast Products - $150
Supplements for Post Surgery Care - $185 on vitamins, powders, seeds, extracts and tablets etc.
Vegetables and Foods- Not included

Medical Costs - $6144
Initial GP Appointment - 75 (I paid $40 after provider rebates)
Initial Surgical Consultation - $200 (I paid $130 after provider rebates)
Initial Psychologist Consultation - $200 (I paid $70 after provider rebates)
Blood Tests - No cost
Ultrasound - $203
Second Surgical Consultation - $85 (I paid $50 after provider rebates)
Initial Dietician Consultation - $150 (I paid $96 after provider rebates)
Initial Anaesthetist Consultation - $525 (I paid $420 after provider rebates)
Surgical Fee - $5500 (I paid $4650 after provider rebates)
Anaesthetist Surgical Fee - Fully covered under provider rebates (LOVE LOVE LOVE)
Hospital Charges - $435 (after HBF benefits)
1 Week Post-Op Surgical Consultation - Free :)
1 Week Post-Op Dietician Consultation -  $120 (I paid $50 after provider rebates)

Other Miscellaneous - $775
Your Complete Guide to Nutrition for Weight Loss Surgery Book - $57
Nutribullet - $218
Personal Trainer - $500 for ten sessions

TOTAL = $6919

The expected cost for patients without Private Health cover is significantly higher, as the hospital fees is a big pincher. Thankfully, this is where your cover helps you out the most.

Let's be honest, it isn't a cheap decision but I know that people would spend just as much on a 4 week trip around Europe. This just means that I don't go on a big holiday this year, and next year I get to go on a holiday as a confident woman! Money well spent in my opinion!
